During our first week together, I want us to really build a solid foundation for the school year. I want many things for all of you - to be successful in English class, to culminate next June, and above all, to develop the skills and confidence you need to make your dreams come true.
That means following the class rules, bringing your supplies everyday, and knowing what is expected of you in English class.
It also means taking to heart what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. shares with us in his speech "What is your life's blueprint?". You must believe in your own "somebodiness". You must stay in school and do what you need to do even if that means "burning the midnight oil". You must also, be the best of who you are and that will mean something different for each of us.
